While it may not get the attention of other dates of historical note, D-Day is a big deal to me. That opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan is almost unwatchable for me, but I think every high school in this country should make it mandatory to see!
Those who know me will remember from numerous times I have told them, but my father participated in D-Day. Of course since he died when I was a baby I am not sure exactly where he went in. That said...I just want to honor my dad's memory and to thank him and the thousands of others who were willing to lay down their lives for our freedom! God bless you all!
Thank You for the reminder.
It seems like everywhere else I've looked, everybody is all atwitter about the 6-6-06 number.
My youngest son did watch SAVING PRIVATE RYAN while in a high school class. So some teachers also recognize the importance of D-Day.

I was going to blog about it and then got busy with work and totally forgot. *sigh*
I had to get up and leave the theater during that opening sequence when the men started calling for their mothers. I am choking up now just thinking about it. All I could imagine was one of my sons in that situation and I was devastated for all the mothers who lost sons, all the children who lost fathers and all the wives who lost husbands.
We can research your dad's service and find out where he was, just FYI.
