For several years back in the mid 90s, I lived in West Texas...Midland to be exact. That was when Army of Mom and I were still married and where Mini-Uzz was born. One of the oddities of living out there was the seemingly routine dust storms that would roll through. Today in Fort Worth, I felt like I was back there once again!
We have been experiencing winds upwards of 40-50mph today and it also stirred up some really nasty dirt as well! Visibility was pretty poor and it gave the whole sky this weird orange feel to it, which was sort of cool, except for the whole dust in the lungs aspect of things! Apparently a good portion of the east side of Fort Worth has lost power, flights have been cancelled at D/FW and I have seen everything from street signs to street barriers blowing down the street!!! A nasty day for sure...at least it never rained, but then again, maybe we would not have had so much dust!
I took shots at the soccer field, but that orange one downtown speaks volumes. We thought the exact same thing about it feeling and looking like Midland. Only it smelled better here. :)

My friend and I were just talking about a sand storm she got stuck in in Southern CA. I've never been in a dust/sand storm...looks kinda pretty though...without the whole lung aspect ;-)

I think I'd rather have that than freezing fog which is what we've had for the last few days.
Color is pretty, but it looks like hell to breathe in.
Take care, Uzz. :)

We've got a weird freezing rain, not quite sleet.
The roads are hazardous because the ground is frozen, so the water and melting snow are standing puddles.
A report in this morning's paper quoted a guy from the Rescue Squad saying they have had 5 accidents along the same one and a half mile stretch of the 4 lane state highway.
We haven't had a dust storm like that since the drought in the Summer of 1988.
I remember the fine film of gray on the inside window sills, even though I had closed the glass.
Your orange is a new color to me, tho.

We have a lot of red dirt here in this part of Texas and in West Texas. They call it red clay. That causes the weird orange color. One news account I read said that the dust storm started in Lubbock and just blew all the way out here. And, Lubbock is somewhere around 300-400 miles west of us!!!

My Boyfriend was complaining about it too. He sent me some pics. Maybe I'll forward them on to you.
