Its been another crazy week or more and I am slowly getting back to a normal life and I have plenty to blog about...I just have not been home or had the time to do it.
Before the end of summer vacation, Mini-Uzz and I managed to get one last short trip out town. Where? Midland, TX...yes...Midland, TX. Why? Well, its because Mini-Uzz, who will be 13 in a few days, wanted to see where he was born and get a feel of what life was like that first year or so.
We reached town around 8pm and had just enough light to get a couple of pics of the paper where his mother (Army of Mom) worked. That brick wall has heard more gossip and absorbed enough smoke to last a lifetime. Sadly, we were unable to go in and see anyone that worked there when we lived there...and yes...there are a lot of people that still work there that we knew!
After staying overnight at one of Midland's most affordable motels, we set off. First on the list...the hospital where he was born. The place did not look much different from when we left, but Mini-Uzz was unhappy when we found out that they no longer deliver babies at that hospital, thus denying him the opportunity to see the actual room.
Then it was off to the old abode...the first home to the great Mini-Uzz. You can see the patio there behind him and of course the cursed door...1313...oddly, my sister was born in Germany and my parents lived in an apartment numbered...1313. Weird. The place was pretty nice when AoM and I lived there, but it has fallen a bit. Its still nice, but you can see little things that point to some seedy elements having moved in...well seedy in Midland is something entirely different than D/FW, so it was not that bad.
Next we checked out the place of baptism...a beautiful church in the middle of the city. That day was interesting, mainly because this joyous day had a cloud hanging over it in the persona of my sister's husband at the time, who was threatening to kill her entire family. We had to spend the night in a hotel after he called and left a message telling us to get right with God because he was coming...he was not in town, but it scared us to death and I actually went to the church packing heat. Anyway...it was a nice little trip...we went to eat at the original Rosa's, where AoM and I ate a lot, went to see the store I used to work in and checked out the new baseball stadium that was built for the Oakland A's AA affiliate. I was sad that we did not get to see his god parents or any of the people at the paper, but Mini-Uzz was pretty happy checking out the massive retail expansion that has taken over that city...maybe next year we can go someplace nice!!!
That's really nice that you guys did that! How many people get to do a trip down memory lane like that! And Mini Uzz is so cute :-D

I have pictures of him hunting his first Easter eggs in that patch of grass with the patio behind him. :)

That looks like it was fun for him.
